No need for conjecture, just look at the Soviet Union or China during the cold war or North Korea or Cuba today!
How refreshing to read a column about Tod Akin that acknowledges the main point hewas trying to make; that executing the most innocent of al involved in a rape pregnancy-the infant-is reprehiensible! It really disgusted and disappointed me to see conservative commentators, whose judgement I usually admire, fall into such a lame-brained, knee-jerk, ill-considered response.

Shame on you for jumping on Todd Akin for his politically unwise statements but ignoring the main point he was trying to make; the immorality of taking the life of the most innocent of all involved in a rape-pregnancy, the unborn child! Why is everybody ignoring that and focusing on the side issue? (Would the rape victim have the same abhorrence for the living children of the rapist, I wonder?) The wrongness of executing the unborn child (especially when so many of those who are screaming the loudest oppose capitol punishment!) is what should be the main focus of the discussion, not the side issues. Especially when it’s not clear that he was wrong in what he said. He stated that he had been told by doctors that there is a mechanism...

Gridlock and Gun Control

You make a very important point; government grows; that is its prime directive. All these agencies constantly strive for more control, more power, more of our money-all purportedly for our own good. And we, the citizenry have been eagerly complicit in it. We continue to swallow the KoolAid time after time that bureaucracy can do this or that for us better than we can do it for ourselves, in spite of their horrible record of inefficiency, fraud and corruption. Why does this happen over and over again? Simple, it relieves us of responsibility. We can let the government worry about these issues and we can go back to watching our favorite “reality” show or sports contest knowing that “something is being done”. Let the politicians handle...

The Truth About Guns

John, you are correct in everything you say, but unfortunately, like all too many gun owners you are missing the true significance of the 2nd Amendment. It was the late gun writer Chuck Karwan who opened my eyes to the fact that AK-47s, M-16s, machine guns--weapons of war--are precisely what the 2nd Amendment is all about! It states: “a well-regulated militia (that word that the left has managed to demonize) being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” It does not mention or allude to sporting equipment in any way; nor is The Second Amendment even primarily about self or home defense. Rather, it is about “we the people” retaining the means to protect our freedom.
Point #7 about the liberal’s view of charity needs to be explored a little further. Many well-meaning, good hearted people support government welfare programs because they don’t understand that there is a vast difference between individuals voluntarily contributing to charities they believe in, and giving government the power to force us to give our money, decide how much we must give, decide who to give it to and how much each will get! Oh yes, and of course the government decides how much will be taken out to cover the costs of this new bureaucracy! People do this because they are extremely short-sighted; they see a need so they seize on the first solution that pops into their heads. That’s as far as their mental processes go....
Funny how every time there is one of these shootings the liberals start screaming; “take away those evil guns”, yet they never suggest that maybe we need to do more to root out these twisted freaks before they go berserk. That is typical liberal-think; never blame the criminal; it’s always society’s failure! It was the late Chuck Karwan who opened my eyes to the fact that AK-47s, M-16s, machine guns-weapons of war-are precisely what the 2nd Amendment is all about! It says a well-regulated militia (that word that the left has managed to demonize) is necessary to the security of a free state and we have the right to keep and bear these ARMS. It does not mention sporting or allude to sporting equipment in any way! The Second Amendment is...
