I"m not sure about the need for education and communication skills to get ahead. I believe many illegals have gotten ahead just by coming here and getting a job. The low-education jobs, where manual skills like shingling roofs or finishing concrete, pay for output not intellect. No matter how "advanced" our society becomes we will always need these types of workers. They learn enough English to do what they have to do and, for the most part, remain in a transplanted Hispanic community, so to speak.

A friend of mine, Republican consultant Matt Mackowiak, tweeted on Tuesday night that if immigration reform goes through Congress this year "it will almost solely be due to" Florida Senator Marco Rubio.
