I am not a Catholic so I do not venerate Mary as anything other than the vessel chosen by God to bring Christ into the world. She has no special powers or influence and she is not in Heaven pleading with her vengeful Son to keep him from destroying all mankind.
That having been said, though, I find something like this novella sick, disgusting, and completely un-Biblical. The author is obviously a person with some deep-seated issues with the Church and used this novella as an attack. I pray for his soul
A Christian can be crushed gazing at the picture of Mary standing at the foot of the cross, watching her beloved son suffocate and die. But in that vision, she stands there for hours, patiently enduring her suffering. For two millennia, she has been a role model for Christians, a woman who practiced obedience in the most difficult of human circumstances, with fervent hope for what this sacrifice will offer all mankind as it struggles with sin.
This is why it seems so hard to reflect that vision of patience when black-hearted "artists" practice character assassination on the Blessed Virgin...

RE: "venerate Mary"?
My response:
Everything that the Roman Catholic Church says about the Blessed Virgin Mary is based on the Bible.
Whatever. To be honest, I always thought of the phrase "The Virgin Mary" as referring to Mary at the time of Christs divine conception and thru his birth. It doesn't bother me if She & Joseph had sex after that.
"Implying"--???
What did it imply at the foot of the cross; when Jesus told John the apostle, "Son, behold thy mother?"
And from that HOUR, Mary went with John to live in his house?
Where were her purported other children? Couldn't give their own mother shelter and food? They left it to a single man; because they didn't love their mother?
Ask yourself: Would you let your own mother go live in a stranger's house? Would your siblings deny her a place to live as a widow?
It doesn't bother Stupid! Sure! To be HONEST! Who cares?
