Liberals continue to confuse a 'minimum wage' with a 'living wage'. Until enough people develop an understanding that the two are not the same and can never be the same we will continue to have this debate and all of the problems that proceed from it. Unions keep pushing for higher statutory minimum wages in order to force their own wages higher without having to negotiate the increase with employers, not out of a sense of responsibility to the unskilled worker and those living in poverty.

The unemployment rate has been stuck above 8 percent ever since Obama pushed through his ill-fated stimulus scheme to increase the burden of government spending.

This high level of joblessness presumably reduces Obama’s chances of getting reelected, so you would think that Democrats would be very leery of proposals that increase the cost of job creation.

Yet they’ve relentlessly pushed to subsidize unemployment, even though Paul Krugman and Larry Summers have...
