I agree that "Took away" the nomination may be a poor word choice, although there is nothing really wrong with it (we often say that someone took first place, right?), but regardless, I think that there is -as they say- no love lost between those two camps. As for taking the job as State - no-one has to like their boss, and what is it about keeping your enemies closer?
