Is Profiling Racist?

Potted Owl Wrote: Aug 04, 2010 12:57 PM
When did the word, "profiling" become "the 'P' word?" Profiling is a very valuable, very good thing. Sure, with profiling we look for a needle in a haystack. Without profiling we look for a needle in a stack of needles.

Remember, this is where innovation starts. Then we build on it based on our needs and someone's entrepreneurial spirit. To reject a plan because it fails to address every single, individual circumstance is tantamount to refusing to allow a grocery store to open in a neighborhood of hungry people because it doesn't sell fig newtons. Let's cut all the crap and see what grows from this innovative idea.

Lon Can't Read Lon, I suggest you reread Star's abstract of the Bezos Dell story with comprehension. If you do, you will see your comments are way, way off target.

To quote that great orator, BO:

"Doing nothing is not an option."

I agree. Let's do something. Let's REALLY do something. Let's get rid of these idiots in November.

I'm fed up! Sick of them! Sick of all their pompous posturing, sick of their backroom deals, sick of their sticky fingers! Most of all, I'm GD sick and tired of their holier-than-thou, elitist, pseudo-academic sh*t! Let's do something meaningful this November. Let's Scott Brown the whole lot of 'em.

Aren't you mad as hell? Aren't you?!!
This is all part of the Dem's master plan: the redistribution of wealth to achieve their view of social justice. Obama's plan to redefine poverty to index it to overall wealth just further pursues this goal. As if the definition of poverty were not already ridiculous...

As the Heritage Institute explains, "The government’s own data show that the typical American defined as poor (according to the traditional, pre-Obama poverty measure) has two color televisions, cable or satellite service, a VCR or DVD player, and a stereo, a car, air conditioning, a refrigerator, a stove, a clothes washer and dryer, and a microwave. He is able to obtain medical care. His home is in good repair, his family is not hungry, and he had...

Re-read the constitution. When you get the the fun stuff (re: first amendment) read it like you were a third grader: read for comprehension, just like you were taught.

Now try to think: What part of "no law" do you not understand?

Yes, it is about money--the money our senators and congressmen are stealing from us every day. Don't deceive yourself; every penny a corporation spends trying to protect its and your interests from big government comes from you and me.

Want corporations to stop buying politicians? Fine. Get politicians to stop selling favors.

Mr. Stossel is right, Lilly, and you are fighting the wrong fight. Just be patient; getting your freedom back, one candidate at a time, won't hurt too much.

We Need Diversity

Money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money.

Liza Minelli and Joel Grey sang those scintillating lyrics in "Cabaret."

Professor Williams' question is rhetorical, I'm sure--he knows why the lack of diversity in college sports shouts as loud as in pro sports. Ready, Liza?

You are right on target. "Have-nots" can becomes "Haves" by their own ability and determination. And they do so with astounding regularity. Dr. Sowell pointed out in a previous column that those who comprise the bottom quintile of income demographics do not remain in the bottom forever. Most of them move up, given enough time. Those social strata are continually in flux.

Also keep in mind that technology and productivity keep raising the standard of living for all, resulting in a lot more so-called "have-nots" enjoying the material wealth of last decade's "Haves." Hundreds of thousands of persons below poverty level own cellphones. Did the wealthiest guy on the street in 1960 have one? Virtually all persons living below...

to change his mind, and I will defend his right to do so without prejudice. This country still allows the freedom to think, (even if for only a bit longer.)

The fact that I disagree with every single point he makes does not diminish his right to make it, nor my right to disagree. Men are human, and often make wrong decisions. Last November is a perfect example--big time! But that's part of living in a free society.
