You are right, Edison did try multiple times before success, the difference is that he didn't try the exact same thing, something changed in each re-iteration. So what tweeks would you suggest, that would make socialism work?

And that minor matter of socialism running counter to the most fundamental of human instincts? Does the internet solve that?

Great! Well, now that there's an internet, no doubt all those who are both geniuses and exceptionally motivated will just "settle" for the same amount of gov't dole as disengaged dullards.

I'm THRILLED to learn that Michael Jordan and I will make the same amount....and that that will not affect his performance. Oprah Winfrey and I will be equals. Spike Lee and I will have equal access to the camera.

And to think that the internet "solved" all this. Wow. Who knew?

Who, that is, other than utterly imbecilic leftist apologists unable to admit that socialism is farce, and responsible for TENS OF MILLIONS dead

So you are saying that socialism needs to be voluntary, not compulsory.
This goes against humans natural tendencies toward self interest, or as Gordon Gecko stated “Greed, for the lack of a better term, is good”.
I also believe that humans, like all animals are essentially lazy, only doing the minimum necessary to survive.

Pookledr. Excellent question. The Right Question.

And an easy answer, the Internet changes everything.

The problem with socialism is Central Planning cannot work. Because a central planner cannot get information fast enough to make good decisions.

The thing that has changed is we have domesticated the electron.

A socialist would say that it is not the system of socialism that failed, but the people were unwilling to cooperate. If we all would just accept misery equally, then socialism would work. So it's the fault of the people (To the socialist).

Here's WaPo's Bob Woodward discussing the threat he received from the White House after calling out Obama on his "nasty" sequester "strategy".
