Time for You to Address Violence in Black Communities, Mr. Obama

Mr. Payne: I respect and admire many black people. I am getting so tired of being blamed for a particular culture's problems. What the heck is "White Privilege"? I don't feel privileged. I don't feel special. I worked my way up to where I am now economically. I grew up just as poor or poorer than some black people. So where is the "White Privilege"? As a culture blacks are creating their problems by themselves. As you have mentioned before the lack of fathers, unwed mothers and a disrespect for education are the main causes of their problems. I had nothing to do with that. Black people should only blame themselves. The black culture needs to change within itself and quit blaming the whites for all there problems.

Growing up, two of my good friends were black. I can tell you 100% that not all of the plight of the black people is their responsibility. Respect was hard won for my friends, it really was.

Their parents moved them out of a predominantly black school district in the 80s, during the "great white flight". Imagine what it must have been like being the only two black teens in an all-white, redneck, country school district?

But they worked hard, made decent grades, excelled at sports, and got through. They both went to the local college, and both are now local business owners.

I chalk that up to good parenting, good decisions about education, and tough skins.

Kudos to you, what great comments.

Dear Mr. Obama,

This week Hadiya Pendleton was shot and murdered in Chicago just days after performing with high school marching band at your second inauguration.

She was a majorette in addition to playing volleyball and being an honor student at King College Prep High School.

My plea to you is you attend her funeral.

My plea is that after the funeral you address the entire nation in prime time and discuss an epidemic that's eroding our nation and destroying millions of dreams.

That is the real epidemic of violence in black communities

There is no better example than your hometown of Chicago or Chi-Raq as many locals have begun to call...
