Conservatives Must Build a 'Bite Me' Coalition

Republicans need not become Democrat Lite. In truth, the average illegal Mexican immigrant is a true conservative. He struck out on his own to make a better life. And while he was making that better life here in America, a Democrat jumped out from behind a cactus and said "Here's some free stuff." Of course, the Mexican took it. I don't know what the Republicans could offer that would beat free stuff. But the appeal to potential Republican Party members and voters alike must always be ideas. Buying votes, hearts and minds is a limited tactic of the Democrats. Not a long-term strategy. Republicans are strategists. Builders. Creators. We must somehow get this message across and resist the temptation to buy our way to parity.

Don't you think the 'legal' immigrants would vote for the republicans if they thought that the republicans would actually stop the stampede of illegals who are taking their jobs and or lowering their wages?

Yes, good point. Their is fertile ground among ethnic Mexicans--both legal and illegal--for Republicans. But the fact that these people Broke The Law must always be addressed and they must be punished through fines or repatriation before any consideration is given to letting them stay or return.

What about a Statute of Limitations for illegal immigration, just as there is for (ahem) illegal bank withdrawals? After 20 years, they can't prosecute bank robbers. Say someone's been here 7 years, and can prove it. Fine, give'em a green card, and stop fussing. It's cheaper and easier than a perpetual Les Miserables show.

Who the hell is New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to presume that he has a say in what I or any other American chooses to drink? Of course, the answer for any self-respecting citizen is that he has no such say, and the proper response to him and his legion of petty fascist fan boys is the suggestion that they pucker up – and I will politely decline to identify what they should kiss.

It’s a sad commentary that the once boisterous, independent, take-no-guff New Yorker of the past has been replaced by a gutless, cowardly supplicant eager to obey...
