Associated Press No Longer Using Term "Illegal Immigrant"

Illegal Mexicans have more than enough cash for F-250s and GMCs, mortgages and clothes -- but precious little for food (which is given to them in "food stamps"), the church or, most importantly, the ER. My ER co-pay is $250. Ten years ago, it was free. I have been to the emergency room ONCE in all that time. What am I paying for? The birth of their anchor babies. Enough!

The Associated Press is changing the way it describes people who come to the United States illegally. In a post on the AP blog titled "'Illegal immigrant' no more," AP Senior Vice President and Executive Editor Kathleen Carroll explains the decision to erase "illegal immigrant" from the AP Stylebook.

The Stylebook no longer sanctions the term “illegal immigrant” or the use of “illegal” to describe a person. Instead, it tells users that “illegal” should describe only an action, such as living in or immigrating to a country illegally.

Why did we make the change?
