The economy is tanking, and no end in sight. We can only avoid worse economic conditions long term with less spending and reduced borrowing. Where the economy is now, taxes on the rich don't mean much, near term. It is crazy and suicidal for the Republican House to draw a line on taxes for the rich. The economy will continue to tank no matter what the taxes are. If the Dems accept any deal NOT involving higher taxes on the rich, the continued economic slide will be blamed on the Republicans again. Its time to give the voter majority what they wanted and voted for. And good and hard.

Profoundly irresponsible?  Of course.  Politically insane?  Not really.  I'll expound on the second point in a moment, but first, let's survey the brazen talk from Team Blue -- with massive, recession-inducing tax hikes hanging in the balance.  Our new friend Patty Murray is at the front of the line:
