The supreme court has upheld the social security law and its various portions in a few cases in the 30's. The Medicare act was passed as an amendment to the social security law, but well after the supreme court rulings I could find. (don't know if that means anything) Just recently, the court refused to hear an appeal by Armey's group of a lower court ruling that said one could not opt out of medicare, even if they wanted different and better insurance or if financially capable of covering costs.

New Jersey governor Chris Christie was not invited to address the Conservative Political Action Conference because of his position on gun control, according to a source familiar with CPAC’s internal deliberations who requested anonymity to speak freely.
