Obama has his thumb on both sides of the scales: On the one side he pays people for being idle, On the other side he inundates businesses with taxes, mandates and regulation, preventing them from providing the jobs that would allow people to get off the dole! It certainly makes you wonder if Obama really does want those to remain unemployed until the Titanic Band stops playing! As George Will puts it, that puts the catastrophe "Beyond the Horizon of Political Consequences"!

I love your "think pieces" Charles.

The great naturalist, John Muir, who not only has a stand of redwoods north of San Francisco named for him, but who also camped out for a few days with President Teddy Roosevelt, warned of "the deadly apathy of luxury"!

I presently live on a small ranch in the California mountains. I did not grow up here, I came here for employment. I have lived in Virginia, Cambridge, Seattle and New Mexico a couple of times and Minnesota. That's how it's done!
Do you expect the unemployed youth of the inner cities to head for North Dakota where they are crying for workers? Don't hold your breath! The Government makes loafing too comfortable and you can sleep till noon and shoot pool all night with the boys! It's hard to give that up.

Your last paragraph is a most accurate of what it is all about. I lived in 6 different places while working, but now welfare has made it too easy just to stay home.
I often write and talk about people selling their soul to the merchants of social justice in return for the cushiest life with the least amount of effort. The reason I put it in those terms is because such action goes against not only American DNA but also human nature. Humans at their most basic level are like any other living organism on the planet that want to procreate to keep the species moving along. Once that's been secured there are still instincts like competition and recreation that constitute life, even for domesticated animals.

For humans the notion of not competing and...
