This fiscal cliff thing reminds me of Muhammad Ali psyching out his opponent before a bout! Before anyone scarcely recognized the issue, the entire media were broadcasting and printing the Democrat's talking points, to wit: There will scarcely be any blame left over after those horrible, unamerican Republicans take their fair share of the blame for the total destruction of the US economy, getting in the way of Obama's Scalp hunting raid to raise tax rates on the rich.

Dr Sowell who's superior insight we all admire reminds us the Democrats favorite pastime is kicking the can down the road while the Republicans' is running for the hills!

It pains me to see how easily the Republicans get snookered. Perhaps we should elect Gingrich again.
Is there truly no one in the Congress who can match wits?

Boehner is no Newt or JFK when it comes to thinking on his feet.

Phil -- so true, so true. But, I wish Sowell would recognize this has been going on for all of his life, and my life -- almost as long as his. This all didn't start last year, or five years ago, or 50 years ago. It's been going on all of my life, all 75 years. And, I still ain't got a "benefit," and do not want any stinking benefit. Frankly, I don't have any men friends that do, and I have many, many men friends, and a few women, who live off us. I was taught that's the way it should be. Well, it goes good for me, and I hope for you. I just wonder about these last two generations. Don't any of them make a living?

1960/ Nixon-Kennedy. that was a pretty good year!

It is hard to keep a stiff upper lip, as the Brits would say- or put another way, Abandon All Hope of ever paying down the deficit, which becomes debt when the fiscal ball drops in DC.

People love to fantacise about how we almost balanced the budget one or two years under Clinton. The key word is ALMOST, and for Clintons entire 8 years, the debt increased 1.3 Trillion!

The message here is that in the very best fiscal years of our lifetime, with no wars, cold or hot, we demanded more than we were willing to pay the full price for.

About the most destructive thing we have had going is our ability to borrow!
The Government is borrowing now to keep people from starving.

How do you get minorities to eschew the welfare checks in return for a job when there ain;t no jobs and won't be for years? And while our union schools are turning out illiterates by the boxcar load, psalm singers tell us we should welcome more with a fifth grade education from Mexican schools? They are the answer to the shortage of qualified workers for our hi tech future?

They bring nothing but a bomb proof voting block for Democrats and Democrats will support them and as many children as they can have in return for nothing more than that vote!

It’s been a year and half since the GOP and Democrats hammered out an agreement that raised the debt ceiling and put us on the lip of a fiscal cliff, threatening mutually assured destruction if a budget deal wasn’t worked out before January 2013.

It made sense for all sides at the time.

The GOP figured there was a good shot that Obama wasn’t going to be reelected. The Democrats figured there was a good chance shot Obama wasn’t going to be reelected. And Obama was content to do what he did best: run a campaign on TV, eat...
