If two armed thugs approach me on the street and decide that the three of us should vote on whether or not I should give them my money, they are just doing what the majority of voters in our nation do when they enter the voting booth. Let's not forget that the GOP is just as guilty. They have no interest in cutting government.

People (rightly) see the two parties as two wings of a pro-government party. One wing, the Democrats, has a preference for robbing the people to spend on "the poor", while the other wing, the GOP, has a preference for robbing people for war. Simply put, people know the government is robbing them, but had rather the money not go for more war.

I was an interview guest last month, and the radio talk show host was asking me about the looming fiscal cliff. In the midst of discussing how our government must cut spending, the host had noted the title of my latest book – “The Virtues Of Capitalism, A Moral Case For Free Markets” – and after a few minutes of discussion, asked “do you mind if we take a phone call, Austin?”
