You mistake the Republican Party for a conservative party. If there is anything that the Republican Party wants to conserve it's all of the encroachments on our liberty that the left has already succeeded in imposing on us. Otherwise, not so much. Until there is a competitive political party that is actually willing to consistently stand for liberty instead of more big government, I see no reason to be optimistic.

A cogent old saw-- people go to Washington to do good, BUT they stay there to do well.

We have become a guvment of, by and FOR the special interests (on BOTH sides). The lobbies that spend the most buy their results.
