BUZZZ.... Internet says, French author Paul Valéry was the author of that quote. And as we all know, the Internet, like Al Gore Jr, is never wrong!

Cheap Politicians

I have to disagree with you there... if someone is going to be my political representative, I definitely want them to be savvy, skillful, shrewd, clever, focussed and possessing any number of other positive descriptors of a smart individual. I don't see getting that kind of person to sacrifice the lucrative career they would otherwise have just to go into public service without significant compensation.
Perhaps they need a Chick-Fil-A franchise in the school cafeteria.
And the worst part? That this is neither surprising nor unusual...
I saw a "Yes we did" bumper sticker today... I thought, how embarrassing!
This is most likely derived from a much earlier source with which Lincoln was surely familiar, and which Clemens probably despised, Proverbs 12:23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness. Proverbs 13:16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly. Proverbs 17:28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
