Mormon Doctrine Leads to Socialism?

Dear Doubting Thomas2124, Jesus, too, apparently believed in prophets. "Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify. . ." In Ephesians, Paul writes that Christ's church has a foundation of prophets and apostles, Christ himself being the chief corner stone. Amos 3:7 says "Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." So, Doubting Thomas2124, Jesus was also a cultist? Christ believed that God has not ceased to be God nor ceased to do things for His children, therefore He sent Christ and Christ sends prophets. These, as he suggested, we tend to believe or we may try to persecute and kill them.

So Peter was wrong to have a vision and allow Gentiles to join the church. After all Christ was already finished with his ministry on earth. Then there was Paul and Apollos and others taking up the calling of Apostle (witness) and taking the Gospel to the Gentiles as well. I guess by your rules, the Christian church fell into apostasy shortly after Christ ascended - prophets and new revelations not allowed. Of course John did see two prophets in the city of Jerusalem in the last days - all proof that you are right, and only your interpretation of the scriptures is valid.

It would be like someone wanting to be a Christian group that insists David Koresh was a prophet of God. That would be cult, even if they call themselves Christian. Just because Mormonism has stood the test of some time, does not negate its roots.

Also, you should remember that God supposedly told Joseph Smith to start the LDS because all the other Christian denominations had gone astray. So Joseph Smith basically called all other forms of Christianity cults or false religions. Now the LDS flip their lids when mainstream Christians do not accept them??? The LDS may be Smithians, but they are not Christians.

However, the writer of Hebrews tells us that in these last days God has spoken to us through a perfect vessel:

Hebrews 1:1-2
In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.

I'm still open to moving in the prophetic today, but from what I can tell, Joseph was a false prophet (e.g. He lusted in his heart so he received a word from God to conveniently excuse his dalliances.) I know Mormons are generally good people, but their insistence on esteeming Joseph Smith is problematic.

Now that Mitt Romney is the presumptive Republican nominee for president, the left is increasing its attacks on his Mormon religion, hoping to distract voters into focusing on perceived negatives about Mormonism. The latest attack is shrewdly done. Instead of directly attacking Mormonism, which could look bad, the left is claiming that Mormonism is really socialist.

Last month, the far left website Salon ran an article entitled, “When Mormons Were Socialists.” It relied completely upon a deliberate misinterpretation of a few verses in the Book of Mormon. The author claimed that Mormon doctrine about events in the first century...
