I have many years of experience in Middle East & No. Africa, going back to 1949. Originally, I was not in favor of an Israeli state. Not because I felt any annymosity for Jews - in fact, I felt the opposite. I served in WWII in Europe and know what terrible atrocities were committed against Jews. We, Amercans, would not accept Jewish refugee prior to WWII - a terrible mistake. My oppostion was the manneer in whcih the politicians of the WEST established the state. Palestinians might compared in some ways to what we did to Japanese Americans. Palestinains were murdered, their lands and busiensses stolen. However, Irael is a reality and the Arabs must recognize the new makeup of the Middle East. Irael has improved living conditions

Palestinians were not "murdered", which implies that non-combatants were intentionally targeted by Israel. They were not. Ever. Their land was not stolen. Even today, an Arab with actual legal claim to any land in Israel can seek redress in Israeli courts. Can a Jew do the same in Syria, Iraq, Iran, or Jordan? Your comparisons are completely faulty, petroleum.

Petroleum - Try to look back further than 1949. You will be forced to admit that there was never a Muslim nation known as Palestine. In fact, no people still extant other than the Jews ever claimed to have a nation based in the Land of Israel. After being forcibly exiled 2000 years ago from their ancestral homeland, the Jews have come home to reclaim their birthright. Israel welcomed the Arabs living there, even while the Arab nations attacked and exiled their Jews. This conflict has never been about a Palestinian state or settlements: It has always been about the survival or destruction of the Jewish national homeland. The Jews are determined not to be exiled from their land yet again.

continuing - Israel is a reality and the Arabs must recognize its existence. Things will not go BACK to what they were. War is not the answer, but the Arabs refuse to admit the Israelis exist. They refuse to believe the holocasut ever happened - in spite of the facts.
Americans and Israelis are Allies, Turkey and America are alies, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, Dubai, Algeria, are other examples of allies in the region.
Just take note - militant Islam wants not just he Israelis to disappear, but all Christian nations as well. Who do we side with - the militants?

Next month, both President Obama and newly minted secretary of state John Kerry head for the Middle East. They should listen to a range of views, see the sights, and pause to smell the hummus. As for policies, this would be a good time to consider a few adjustments. Below is a briefing — a briefer briefing than they will get from their advisers — on the state of the states, the players in play, and some different approaches to contemplate.

Israel and the Palestinians: Whatever peace process may have taken place in the past cannot be resuscitated in the present....
