GOP Turns Sure Victory into Defeat

Sadly, Romney's campaign was the carbon copy of Thomas Dewey's 1948 campaign against Truman. Truman was totally unpopular at the time with a weak background. Dewey was accomplished, educated and governor of New York and ran as Mr. Moderate and Mr, Competent, while pointing out none of Truman's obvious flaws, and counting on these flaws and the unpopularity for victory. Truman attacked Dewey savagely as did Obama. Results were the same, the fighter won and Mr. Moderate, Mr nice guy made history.

Your historical perspective and analysis are totally correct.

Perhaps the Wimpublican "leadership" will recognize that this scenario occurs whenever the Wimps nominate a "moderate nice-guy". (Frankly, I doubt that they are capable of recognizing it or understanding it. Romney was clearly the next-in-line after 2008, so who is next-in-line for 2016 for the Wimps?)

Wait until next year -- 2016, that is.

That’s what disappointed Republican spinners kept saying Tuesday night as they watched Mitt Romney’s hopes crash and burn in swing state after swing state.

How many times did I hear a Republican talk about how their party’s deep bench of future all-stars will return it to power in Washington in four years?

But all the Ryans, Rubios, Bushes, Haleys and Christies in America can’t put the GOP -- or the country -- back together again.

The GOP is a wreck -- and not just in California, where the party’s registration is now...
