People talk a LOT about 'assault rifles'. Keep one thing in mind, though: America was wrested out of British control using single shot muskets, NOT assault rifles. Millions of people died, worldwide, from being shot with a musket. It isn't the TYPE of weapon that matters, it's more about who is holding that weapon. We must try to keep them out of the hands of incompetent people.

There simply is NO such thing as an 'assault rifle'. This is merely obfuscation to instill fear into the hearts of low-knowledge people and other hysterical chicken-littles. Guns are made for one thing only; delivering death. They are intended for self-defense, for hunting, target shooting and for war, if needed. If you are attacked by an assailant, it matters not whether he is using a gun, or knife, or bazooka, or an IED. The question we are faced with is, "Are we allowed to defend ourselves if attacked?" Our Constitution says that we are. Liberals and ALL tyrants say we aren't. Who are you going to believe? What we must do is, somehow, insure that no mentally deranged persons get their hands on guns. Just as with drugs, laws are imperfect

A flat sales tax on all NEW sales would solve all these problems. NOT a VAT tax, that is HIGHLY regressive! It's how they do it in Europe, and we all know what a mess they have right now! A sales tax replaces ALL other taxes, including SS and Medicare. You take your money home. ALL of it. You buy the goods and services that you, as an individual, need, paying the national sales tax. An allowance would be made for the poverty level; no or minimal taxes below that level. Each year everyone gets a refund, based on your income, for the taxes you paid on money you earned UNDER the poverty level. As someone noted, they would have to include food stamps and welfare checks as 'income'. This is the ultimate 'fair tax'. Spend more, pay more taxes.

I just finished up refinancing my 30 year mortgage, to get the lower interst rates. I went from 6.29% (not too bad in 2003) to 3.75% with a 20 year VA loan. I can assure you that the lenders would PREFER that everyone took out a 15 year loan, rather than a 30 year loan. They turn their money over quicker that way. Also, we were informed that our loan could be (probably WILL be) sold. The mortgage and home loan business has changed immensely in the past 10 years. As you noted, the interest rates aren't going to go much, if any, lower any time soon. If you lose those deductions, what's the point of buying a house? Rent is cheaper, so let the other guy worry about those expenses.

I couldn't resist! Becuase of the governments WONDERFUL direction and 'steering' of the economy, we got the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac disgrace! Then, libs swore it as ALL Bush's fault, even though he called for government oversight & control, not once, but EIGHT times! and he was voted down each and every time, by the liberals. Now, Barney Frank has retired to his Shangrila, somewhere out in La la land, and walks away a rich, and FREE man! It was he who insisted, over and over again that the housing market had NO PROBLEM, was performing just as it should be. A few short months before the crash! Tell us again about the the government directing and steering our economy, especially as we are about to go crashing over the 'fiscal cliff'.

In 2008 the economy was perking along just fine. Then, along came BHO, telling us how TERRIBLE things were and how America was an evil place. Then he told us that energy prices would necessarily go sky high. The housing market was going to crash. This falls under the heading of a self-fulfilling prophecy. It wasn't too long until all hell DID start breaking loose. When the housing market crashed, Obama DEMANDED that Bush 'DO SOMETHING' about it. He demanded a bailout! Then later, he demonized Bush for issuing the first bailout. Then, he turned right around and issued an even BIGGER one. Neither bailout, or 'Stimulus' had any real effect on the economy. The only real results were some of Obama's campaign donors got a BIG payoff.

You do have to wonder just how many more laws we will let him break, and how many more scandals it will take before the American people finally say, "ENOUGH!" Richard Nixon resigned over Watergate, yet no one died! MANY have died, due to Obama's failed admin, and yet he is still walking around a free man! AMERICA, it's time for us to wake up! Our country is being stolen from us and all we can think about is American Idol and X-Factor! Eye candy! Vote the scoundrels out! Also, just ignore the trolls here.

He was recently quoted as saying the only folks who hid their records were folks who had something to hide. Now, THAT is a true statement, one of only a very small number that he has uttered. Maybe, just maybe, we should listen to him this time?
