Apologies sort of defeat the purpose of the Big Lie, so don't expect the Administration to back away. They'll have to keep on repeating it until the gullible public either swallows it or barfs it up.

The big lie works because of it's audacity. People cannot believe others would tell such whoppers. So, even after the lie has been proven false, it lives on in the minds of decent people who have a hard time believing anyone would so boldly lie. Obama's third autobiography will be called The Audacity of The Lie.
