From my libertarian perspective, I think breaking up nation-states into smaller units is a great idea. Catalonia should separate from Spain, Frisia from Belgium, Bavaria from Germany, and Scotland from Britain. The United States should also separate into self-governing regions; I think 50 sounds like just about the right number. The District of Columbia should be left to govern itself. I hear DC is great at producing regulations; let it regulate itself.

Great only problem is how to make it a reality? Maybe the sucession movement is the answer. I think I'll look into it.

Last week was spent obsessed with Gaza. In the end, nothing changed. A war was fought without an Israeli ground assault but with massive air and rocket attacks on both sides. Israel did not have the appetite and perhaps the power to crush Hamas. Hamas did not have the power to compel Israel to change its policies but wanted to achieve a symbolic victory against Israel....
