From my perspective as a student of the Austrian School of economics, I think the battles over rates of taxation are largely illusory. Such battles are like the distraction the magician uses to keep you from noticing how he actually does the trick. The REAL trick of government theft is not taxation; it is its monopoly on the creation of money, and its artificial manipulation of credit. Thus, while you and I are fixated on the distraction of tax rates, the government magician continues to finance itself through the much-more-clever means of printing money. So long as the government can create money at will, arguments over taxation rates are close to meaningless.

According to a new ABC News/Washington Post poll, 73 percent of Democrats and 63 percent of independents -- and even 39 percent of Republicans -- now favor raising taxes on those making $250,000 or more a year. So give the people want they want.
