I have several veterans as acquaintances, and close friends. Believe me, none was ever impressed by the VA medical system, and its quality. Perhaps that's just the Phoenix area VA hospitals etc. However, even if it ran like a Swiss watch, and was as cheap as dirt, that would still not change one fact: TAKING MY HARD EARNED MONEY FROM ME WITHOUT MY PERMISSION IS THEFT AND IT IS IMMORAL. It matters not if you spend my STOLEN MONEY on health care, or social "security", or putting monkeys in space, or some stupidly ill-conceived war on terror, it is still the redistribution of STOLEN MONEY and it's IMMORAL! The con-men in DC who pass these laws are thieves. The bureaucrats who distribute the money are fences, and those who benefit...

Does anyone remember that the Episcopal Church was founded by King Henry VIII, who broke away from the Catholic church so he could divorce (and later murder) his wife? Does anyone remember that since that time, up until very recently this particularly vicious schism in the Church has led to several wars and many persecutions OF Christians BY Christians. The slaughter of Irish Catholics by Oliver Cromwell (a great Puritan leader BTW) is a case in point. The Inquisition is another. The endorsement of violence by Christians is a much bigger problem than gays in church. Of course, men like Cal Thomas refuse to even discuss this. They'd rather cling to other verses in the Bible and scream about "gays". It reminds me of the Pharisees...

The downturn in the economy is resulting (at state and local levels at least) in the one thing you claim you have wanted all along: Smaller, less intrusive government. Perhaps you were not really interested in smaller government after all? Did you really want to control things to get YOUR agenda passed? Was the "small government" thing just a ruse? You should REJOICE that the government is smaller!
Oh, and one more thing: Law enforcement, fire suppression, and education may be vital, but that does not mean that government has to provide...

Yeah, preach it Cal. Preach that the Bible stands square against sexual immorality of all stripes! That's exactly what the Bible teaches! And don't forget to say how the Bible teaches us to love one another! And how the Bible tells us to turn the other cheek! And never repay evil with evil! And to hate violence! And that WAR comes directly from our lusts! And that God loves ALL of us, even if they speak Arabic! And... Cal? Cal???

What I love about the article is it implies, but doesn't overtly state, that if this plan "worked" if somehow the price of health care was lowered, that this would be OK. The fact is it is funded by TAXES. And Taxation is simply THEFT plus reams of PAPERWORK. There is no moral, or philosophical difference between the two. If a thief takes your wallet, does it really matter what he spends the money on? Even if it is to help buy medicine for his sick grandmother? If you answered "yes" to that question, if you think that somehow theft CAN be justified by the ends the loot is put to, then you will get what you deserve from government, and that is both tyranny and failure in every area that government touches. That includes health care.

If a third party is the answer, it was a really stupid question. The answer is not either of the two existing parties either. The answer is de-politicizing society--getting the politics out of it, and solving our problems on our own without the help of "leaders" especially political ones.

Third parties won't solve our problems. But it isn't because a third party can't win, nor is it because a third party will be corrupted, nor it is that a third party would turn control over to the Democrats during an interim. The real reason a third (or fourth or forty-fourth) political party won't work is that, like the current two parties we have, it is trying to solve philosophical and moral problems with politics.
