Thanks for your persistence in this debate. I'll add a subjective anecdote. My wife and I have 3 kids. We wanted to go for 4 but we had difficuly conceiving. Then she got preganant but unfortunately she miscarried. Again I know this isn't scientific, but there's nobody on this planet that could ever convince me that that baby was any less a son or daughter of mine as the ones I have walking around this planet today. Nope, can't be done. I look forward to the day I meet this child face to face.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

I know that the children my MIL and two of my SIL's lost are likewise dear to them and that they grieved for them just as they would have if they had lost a born child.
Rep. Todd Akin has, unwittingly to be sure, harmed the pro-life movement, his senatorial race in Missouri, the Republican Party, and therefore quite possibly the nation.

Every person who speaks or writes for the public will make an occasional faux pas, and sooner or later, will write or say something inappropriate. The game of "gotcha" that the media play -- especially with regard to Republicans and conservatives -- is what makes so many politicians sound robotic when they speak.

But Congressman Akin said something that cries out for condemnation and retraction -- and necessitates an explanation.
