I listen to my aunts & uncles, older friends and I thank God I didn't have to live their experiences. I don't begrudge any of them whatever comforts they have in their remaining years. I wouldn't blame the current retirees - they operated under the same promises we are being asked to believe now. Anyone who has a 401k is looking at far less in 2010 (30-50% losses) than they had invested before the government caused the meltdown in 2008. I can't believe they are audacious enough to try to convince us to bite into another program managed by crooks. Oh, and to add insult to injury, the Congress exempted themselves from SS years ago and have a cadillac retirement plan. Sweet, huh? I wonder if they would have spent all the deposits if their own money was invested in this government run retirement system.

Michael, it IS flatly unacceptable to those who have been following the takeover of our health care (almost 20% of our GDP by the way) hence the frustration and loud voices at town hall meetings.
