Soviet Union ideologues were whining about terrible consequences of WW2 (not that I am denying it) for decades, until it fell apart. At the same time, Germany that was leveled like Moon surface, Japan, all European countries recovered in a decade or so (I am putting it very loosely, but you know the history). SU proudly proclaimed that "Leninism is winning because it's true" while machine guns on its borders were trained INSIDE, in case you did not know it. Now you can see it in all "democratic" or "people's" republics. salaries were set up by govt, whether you were genius or slacker. There was this joke - They pretend to pay us, we pretend to work.

There was a time when Democrats and Republicans alike could talk sense about tax rates, in terms of what is best for the economy, without demagoguery about "tax cuts for the rich."

Democratic presidents Woodrow Wilson and John F. Kennedy spoke plainly about the fact that higher tax rates on individuals and businesses did not automatically translate into higher tax revenues for the government. Beyond some point, high tax rates on those with high incomes simply led to those incomes being invested in tax-free bonds, with the revenue from those bonds being completely lost to the government -- and the investments lost...
