I agree about the article and would like to add to it. Why would anyone, in that environment, feel that they need to have those kind of weapons in their home?

Gee, I don't know--maybe to defend themselves and others against homicidal nut-cases who go on killing sprees? Perhaps to defend their homes, lives, loved ones, and property?

What the f are you talking about?

Duke,

Automobiles can indeed cause terrible damage. But they have an everyday function that justifies the tradeoff. I'd have a pretty difficult time functioning in Dallas (or almost anywhere else in this country) without a car, but I've managed just fine for 63 years without owning a firearm.

Duke Nuke'em: I am all for gun ownership, but I think Pat1392 asks a valid question. We need to know more about the mother. What was her motivation for owning 5 guns in that peaceful, small town? Did she know how to use them? Something doesn't quite compute here. We need more information, period

ericynot,

Both are inanimate objects that require humans to activate them. Ban one, then ban all!

BTW, your choice to not own firearms. But when you push your choice on to me, you are wrong.

You mean you have never have had the need for one, how great is that.

I live in a small town and own more than 5...none of them ever harmed anyone. BUT, I will tell you what my sheriff says " you can't use what you aren't carrying". Small town, large town, there are bad people in this world and I simply refuse to be a victim of one of them. I agree that we need more info, perhaps that should have been the first comment from liberal morons and gun grabbers like bloomberg.

Thanks Eric......my only suggestion was that it was a lot of weapons for a person to own.

People kill people. That does it! Ban people.

No....there was something obviously wrong with a kid in the household.....why the access.

It should come as no surprise that the rate of mass shootings at schools and in other public places is increasing. The surge has nothing to do with guns, which have been widely available in the U.S. for years. Gun control laws have been increasing. Instead, there is a direct correlation between the increase in violence and the gradual degradation of morals, ethics and parenting. We are cultivating mental illness in our society.

Parents are allowing television and video games to increasingly babysit their children, even though both have become full of gratuitous violence. A New...
