I think Romney was a good candidate, but in terms of messaging, Gingrich would have been far better for this campaign.

I think Gingrich would have been handicapped by his reputation of being mean spirited. Who knows, though? He, at least, would not have back pedaled, as Romney did, every time he said something that some whining crybaby said he was offended by. He'd have also done something that Romney failed to do, and that was hit Obama hard on his record and kept hitting him. I don't like Gingrich and would would not have wanted to vote for him, but, unlike Romney, I probably could have brought myself to do so.

Small minds always leap to the answers given the last time around, which is probably why Maxine Waters keeps getting re-elected. But the last time is not necessarily the same as this time. A terrorist attack is not the same as the Cold War, a war in Afghanistan is not the same as a war in Iraq, and Mitt Romney is not the same as John McCain or Bob Dole.
