Rush Limbaugh Ditched in Bid to Buy Rams

Owen37 Wrote: Oct 15, 2009 9:32 PM
Rush is an entertainer. Entertainment is about public relations. He understands the group going on without him.

Now as for the folks who made up quotes to put in his mouth...there will be a day in court. In many cases one can get away with that if, and that is one of those bold underlined capitalized IFs, it is satire. Saturday Night Live could have put something like that in a skit and everyone could yuck it up. Put something like that in a non-fiction book or a supposed news broadcast, and you have one of those situations that tort lawyers were made for.

As for some of the posters on this comment section, just wow, what total idiocy. I have seen people say some things about Rush that I couldn't believe. Isn't it...
I can see why the President's supporters would like Chairman Mao. When Chairman Mao got into some hot water after the zeal of revolution waned and society was still dirt poor, he used his hordes of indoctrinated children to stamp out any opposition to his power. His little red book bludgeoned all possible dissent and cemented Mao's grip on China. This White House is likely day-dreaming of ways to pull something like that off for themselves, especially with the race card losing a lot of its impact lately.
A few problems there killer:
1. The military (defense) is one of the enumerated powers of the federal government.
2. 99% of police and fire units are Local or State run (just like the constitution intended)
3. Our military is run as a democracy - CIVILIANS appointed with the advice and consent of the duly elected Senate make the decisions. If it wasn't run as a democracy, then the Generals would be running the country as is done in most banana republics.

So why complain about the VERY few things the government does in the manner the founders intended?

Funny how some posters forget the whole Jumpin' Jim Jeffers affair that led to Ted Kennedy writing the Education Bill (misnamed "No Child Left Behind" - "No Power Left to Locals" is a better name but I digress). Thanks to the likes of Snow, Collins, and Specter, the democrats were able to not just block Republican budgets, but actually gain a working majority on almost any issue. Effectively the republicans NEVER controlled the budget because they NEVER had the votes to pass their agenda and had to adopt large portions of the democrat's ideas in order to get anything passed.

Personally I would have preferred that they passed the defense budget then let EVERYTHING ELSE get killed by the Democrats in floor votes. Instead they...
I believe in hunting as long as the hunter eats his kill. We displaced the large predators and we need to take their place. I don't want roving packs of wolves in my neighborhood either. I believe that the ecosystem is very adaptable and robust, but we need to be conscious of the long term impacts of our activities. Can't find spotted owls in the old growth forest, try looking in the city. They tend to follow the rodents, and it is pretty easy pickings there. So I guess what I am saying is we need to be careful, but then again, most of my suggestions make good economic sense as well. Only Communists thing you have to destroy our lifestyle to maintain the environment. Unfortunately, the Communists seem to have taken over the...
You know it makes me sad to think that environmentalists like me are getting painted with the same brush as the worshipers of Al Gore. I have always said it is right to take care of the environment. The heavy pollution of my childhood is a thing of the past. I can't remember the last time a canal or river spontaneously combusted from the chemicals dumped in them. Likewise, I haven't seen brown air in 30 years, an occasional ozone haze, but nothing like it was in the late 60's. I am the kind of environmentalist that says let's come up with more innovative ways to continue the most excellent lifestyle on the planet. I believe fully in Nuclear Power. I detested Jimmy Carter's banning of breeder reactor technology that would have rid...

What Happened to Global Warming?

Owen37 Wrote: Oct 13, 2009 9:28 PM
Judging history, 1934 wasn't even close to the warmest year. Unfortunately, they hadn't invented thermometers yet during the medieval warming period. I would have to say the warmest year in written history would be sometime between 900-1200AD. There were vineyards in production in Yorkshire England and even in Southern Scotland during that period. Of course they all died off in the 1300-1400s due to global cooling, but it was good while it lasted.

Then there was that nasty cool down known as the little ice age. You may have heard of an event known as Washington's Winter Encampment at Valley Forge, that was toward the end of the 200+ years of brutal winters and extremely brief summers, and wasn't even the worst year on...
There is only one race, the human race, and where we wind up in life is solely the product of the choices we make every day from the time we are a child to the day of our death. If we choose to be self-sufficient and responsible for our own destinies, we eventually succeed. If we choose dependency and irresponsibility, we invariably fail. That is the way of the world, to deny that is to deny reality. Those of us who succeed help those who are trying along, and avert our eyes from the train wrecks that the dependency/irresponsibility crowd become. For me the sad part is what the second group does to their children. One looks up to ones parents, but it is hard when the parent acts worse than a child. With no good examples in their young...
Most of the posts actually refer to bigotry or prejudice. I don't know why people can't seem to keep those straight.
Now, I don't know that I have ever heard a demand for "reparations" come from the president's mouth, but any such demand would be a race-based request. The thing about it that bothers me is, besides the fact that my forebears were in a free state and thus had no slave so why should I pay, is that it is a defacto admission that a people could not overcome slavery after 144 years of freedom. Many people who arrived here from Europe and Asia in those intervening years had nothing and are doing quite well. The few immigrants I have met from Africa proper have done well for themselves as well. I served in the armed forces...

Ready, Aim, Fire McChrystal

The few times I have put too much pressure on a thick piece of steel, it sounded like an explosion when it broke. How much louder would the steel of a skyscraper clad in concrete sound when millions of tons of pressure built up then released suddenly? If you worked out the force equations involved I am sure you would get energy totals at least as large as a five-hundred pound bomb. Add to that the cascade nature of that failure, floor after floor, and I am sure it would have sounded similar to a building undergoing implosion. These are the reports of eye(ear)-witnesses that have led 9-11 conspiracy types to claim that GW Bush must have led the world's largest conspiracy and not have any of his co-conspirators rat him out, while at...
