A Confession from my College Years that Will Displease Feminists

Well, I am a 44 year old female who spent the last 20 years in a male dominated industry and I can honestly say I was never treated badly. Some will say because my sisters paved the way but I say BS. Most of this stuff works itself out without govt intrusion. I showed up to work on time, had a wicked sense of humor, and treated the men I worked with respectfully. I know after working with me they had a better impression of women in their field. Why can't we as a minority just suck it up, learn, impress and assimilate? That goes way further than a march or a lawsuit, and it really paves the way for others. Honestly, we need to grow up as a nation and act more honorably. Now I am going to email my husband and nag him........

I agree. I'm 46 and also work in a male-dominated field (engineering). I've been on jobs where there was me and 60 men in the office. It never bothered me. Early on, I noticed a lot of the older men were a bit paternal, but I never suffered any discrimination. I've only experienced that issue once, at a small defense contractor, and I didn't stick around there long. They weren't even aware they were doing it, but I made certain to point it out when I left.

It's funny, but I actually got much more grief from some family, who insinuated I was going to engineering school to "get a man." I think technology, in particular, is very gender-neutral. No one really cares what you are, as long as you can do the job.

What a breath of freash air to hear a woman who is not afraid to take responsibility for her own success.

In all due respect, how can any group of individuals which comprise approximately 50% of the given population be called a minority?

My bad, I meant it in relation to the industry I am in, not in general. I agree with you.

Since I’ve already semi-admitted to criminal behavior in my youth, it’s time for another confession.

I was recently watching football with a fraternity brother who mentioned that he found some old newspaper clippings about a certain…um…incident from way back in 1979.

Here’s the story from the local newspaper. Since I openly admitted my role in the “attack” and mentioned the danger of government intervention, I like to think that this is evidence that I was genetically libertarian and precociously self-aware.

I realize that there are alternative hypotheses, involving words like “jerk” and “troublemaker,” but surely...
