A Lesson in Education Hyperbole

When Obama first got into office, in 2009, one of his first acts was to cancel the D.C. school voucher program at the behest of the public school unions, as part of his (then) $1.6 TRILLION budget (3x Bush's $535 billion last yr budget). When Boehner became Speaker of the House in Jan 2011, one of his first acts was to use Congress to reinstate the successful D.C. school voucher program for (mostly) poor, black children and their parents who were being denied a choice to attend alternative private schools where their children would be in safe and productive learning environments. Obama continues looking for ways to KILL the D.C. school voucher program.

Dire predictions about the fate of certain government programs were hardly in short supply recently, as sequester-related budget cuts loomed. So it was hardly a surprise when Education Secretary Arne Duncan got in on the act.

“It just means a lot more children will not get the kinds of services and opportunities they need, and as many as 40,000 teachers could lose their jobs,” he said in an interview with Face the Nation. “There are literally teachers now who are getting pink slips, who are getting notices that they can’t come back this fall.”

Turns out, though, that it isn’t true....
