At the money article: (1) The sociology 101 says that those who compile the polling questions influence the results and special precautions are to be made to avoid this. It is easy to construct the questions with predictable answers. (2) The 'modern' Republicans represent only themselves and 'compete' with Democrats for their constituency. (3) However, As a poet says, the Truth will win only if it copies the Lie.

Great article of the great economist. Dr. Williams writes "I'm sure that we'd be less satisfied with supermarkets if they, too, had the power to take our money through taxes". I witness that when I lived in the Soviet Union, the Soviet "supermarkets" sell rye bread and one kind of canned fish. Though you can buy more if you bribe a store worker. Therefore a supermarket workers were a privileged caste there then.

The War Against Achievement

Dr. Sowell noticed the common trend of the strong governments - they always inhibit self-reliant people who do not need government's freebies. German Nazis chased talented people as "Jews and Jewish followers" (and therefore they could not create nuclear bomb). Communists routinely chased and / or ignored achievers as "putting themselves against collective" (and therefore they lost the Cold War). The Law of Unexpected Consequences works against governments in such chases.

Is Red State America Seceding?

I don't see anything unreasonable in the secession matters. This is what our Founding Fathers assumed we have to have. Moreover, Red / Blue separation is unstoppable.

Great article. Nowadays, there is nothing liberal in our 'liberals'. Democratic Party today consists of groups which are trying to get something, they do not deserve to,through the government / judicial intervention. Such activity is irreversible for the government is the biggest and the powerful player in the society. Along with its dual, AFSCME, they expand further and further. The future of the groups, which now support uncontrolled expansion, remains to be seen.
Awesome Mr. Blackwell! How it is that the simple reasoning never occurs in the U.S. politics?
The problem has at least 2 angles. (1) The famous scientists are interested in the turbulence zone sub/super sonic barrier and they need the funding, only the govs can provide. We well know that only govs can provide funding for the theoretical breakthrough. (2) The parasites use the opportunity to make money / name recognition / name reminder from this fact. Listening to the idiotic explanation of the latest, normal people object to exploded (thanks to the parasites!) costs.
Wow, our 2 last presidents, their clowns and the useful souls in Congress followed the orders of Goldman and destroyed mortgage market with their new accounting and regulations by attacking FNMA and FHLMC, Now Goldman has a nerve to accuse the feds on the results.

People changed, spoiled by promised (and sometimes delivered) perks by "progressive" politicians. Plus the most unfortunate feature - AFSCME. I think we will continue to decay.

Dr. Sowell (as usual) was at the money in exposing the problem. Unfortunately, seems, it is the result of democracy itself: our politicians prefer demagogic destruction just because of (1) it always easier to destroy than to create and (2) more people (usually temporary) benefit from their "solution" than the people who object it. Fortunately for us, our founding fathers knew the kind of scoundrels to deal with and created a system which decays very slow.

What is Islam?

oleg-34 Wrote: Jul 08, 2013 11:07 AM
Jeff Jacoby provided a comparison to the Third Reich. But as Islam is an ideology and militant organizations and governments are based on this ideology, then more logical would be to compare the situation to the Third Reich and the Nazism. It is hard to Islam to coexist with the modern culture. The statement, that if the land belonged to the Muslim it is forever Muslim land, is a source of tensions from Spain to the Israel, to the Armenia, to the India. The requirement to kill apostates contradicts to the freedom of religion and so on.
