-- The war between the Mexican government and drug cartels is still raging with the war's latest victim being female Mayor Maria Santos Gorrostieta, -- Well, yes, Katie, but this absurd war was started at the behest of the US Government, despite the fact that Mexican presidents had tried to stem the rise of the drug cartels a few times before and found it an impossible task, which is why they were only giving lip service to the idea of fighting "drug trafficking" (for the good fortune of all us Mexicans, because the violence was never like we have now). Unfortunately, the Princeton-educated president Calderon, for some reason, obeyed the mandate from DC, which cost his party the election for good reason.

The Cartel War started in earnest in about '06 because Calderon was elected and vowed a severe crackdown AND the Sinaloa Cartel wanted to stop paying the Juarez cartel fees to use the Juarez Plaza/best place to transport drugs near El Paso.

The Sinaloa cartel invaded Juarez, Turf War. More Turf Wars,. Gulf Cartel split up, Zetas came out of them. Some say Zeta founders were schooled at the School of Americas. I don't know.

I get it, it's all America's fault. Mexico has been corrupt for two centuries due to the United States causing internal distress with the Mexican culture which left on it's own would be a thriving first world country, peaceful, wealthy, egucated and a good will ambasador to the world. If only America would leave Mexico alone.

No, you DON'T GET IT. America is not the same as her government. It is the fault of the American GOVERNMENT, which is populated by power-hungry autocrats. I place the blame squarely where it belongs, but you - like your soul mates on the left - prefer to equivocate and prevaricate.

What's the excuse for the rest of the economic basketcases of Latin America?

As our focus continues to be on the violence in the Middle East, it is also important to pay attention to what is going on just south of our own border in Mexico. The war between the Mexican government and drug cartels is still raging with the war's latest victim being female Mayor Maria Santos Gorrostieta, who was beaten, burned, tortured and dumped for dead on the side of the road. Before being killed, Gorrostieta had been attacked twice by cartels for daring to challenge them. The third attack they waged on her, was her last.
