How Liberals Argue: Food Stamps Stimulate the Economy

Madame Ex-Speaker, the most stimulating component for our economy would be a GDP growing at 3.5-4.0%+ per year. Beats the dickens out of food stamps, unemployment, etc.

You know what else beats food stamps? Manna from heaven...

....Also, free ice cream for everyone. That's better than food stamps, too.

You guys are ridiculous. If the choice is between food stamps and growing the economy, ANYONE would choose growing the economy. The argument about food stamps being stimulus is as compared to other government spending. Not compared to other possible worlds where everything is great.

Every Thursday morning I go on the Jon Justice show in Southern Arizona. Today, I made a comment about the glorification of food stamps and apparently that sparked a deluge of calls like the one below in which the caller argues welfare stimulates the economy.

Considering Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi thinks the same way, I'm not surprised.

"It's the biggest bang for the buck."
