"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive.” – C. S. Lewis
As a retired military guy, I find it offensive that you stated that we had to wait for "Obama to kill OBL." With his background as a community organizer, the only thing Obama can kill are JOBS and babies who survive botched abortions.
Yes, FAILED Obama policy in Afghanistan, Jim. I recall that we were attacked here at home and 3,000 Americans were killed, mostly civilians. Obama was left this war because after Democrats wholeheartedly supported the war initially, after we committed, they did everything in their power to undermine the effort to the point of sedition. The media made a circus out of tallying the U.S. casualties in a perversely celebratory manner: one thousand, no, two thousand, no, three thousand dead U.S. soldiers! Meanwhile, casualties in Afghanistan have exceeded any and all numbers of those under Bush and all you hear are... crickets chirping. As a retired military guy, I find it offensive that you stated that we had to wait for "Obama to kill...

Bailin' on Palin

Seems like I remember that Palin had an approval rating as governor of Alaska in the mid-eighties... which is considerably higher than the approval rating of this columnist amongst his readership. Further, who gives a poop about the athletic achievements of some obscure, Division 4 college baseball team? Really, people in glass houses shouldn't be rolling boulders down the stairs, Rich.

The creators of the welfare state had good intentions? I believe that C. S. Lewis said it best: "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive.”

All animals are equal... but SOME animals are more equal than others. Little did Orwell dream that despite repeated failures the world over, communism would eventually ooze to the surface in the "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave."

Grow a brain. AA's? What's that? Alcoholics Anonymous?

When you don't have anything relevant to say, start in with the name-calling. Crackers? Really?

Your comments validate every word in Shapiro's article, to wit: blacks in America are racist.

By the way, are you anti-Semitic?

And what the heck does "hypocrital" mean?

Dismiss General Casey

Accepting your premise that you're "really" active duty, I don't care that you've personally briefed General Casey or even that he's presumably godfather to your children. With 13 dead American soldiers under his command, all he can say is "Diversity uber alles!" That's wrong in so many ways. Diversity is synonomous with polarization, not unity. Perhaps if your rate or mos were more operationally oriented than language/intel specialist, you might be more attuned to what attributes are necessary in a good military leader. That you PERSONALLY briefed the General is non sequitur. It is my hope, for the sake of the U.S. Navy, that you never ascend to a position of serious responsibility.

In the wake of the Fort Hood tragedy, I was horrified to hear that the main focus of the Army's Chief of Staff was that diversity might be the main casualty this terrorist attack.

It may help to put this in terms of a sports metaphor: How would players and fans feel if an NFL head coach stated that his overarching goal was to foster self-esteem... in the opposing team's players by not winning too often?

Answer: He'd be gone in two shakes!

If memory serves, all flag officers have to be vetted and confirmed by congress. Combine this with the fact that to attain flag rank requires more than a little political acumen.

Somewhere between a military junta and a bottom feeder like General Casey is a tolerable...
