As to the targeting of individuals: The purpose is to reduce enemy capabilities and render them as harmless as possible. How much does his or her death advance that cause? Operative example: This is World War Two; You are an OSS sniper in Germany. You are at a public event. On the stage are Hitler himself, Heydrich, his even more thuggish heir and a decent soldier named Erwin Rommel. You can get off two quick rounds, so of the three whom do you shoot? Answer you shoot Rommel twice just to make sure. Fuherers and their heirs are a dime a dozen. First-rate Field Marshalls are hard to find. End of lesson.

Murder for Hire

In the water cure, the subject is forced to drink potentially fatal quantities of fluid and the resultant pain is increased by beating or stomping upon the distended abdomen and other parts of the anatomy. He will confess to anything. However ask him where his command post or safehouse is and you will get only gibberish in reply. He has no capacity left for rational thought. On the other hand, the waterboard duplicates the panic of drowning by replicating the physical aspects. To avoid repeat performances the subject will start answering and/or correct previous falsehoods. Or to be more faceticious, hooking a field phone to the genitalia and turning the hand crank works, utilizing a 35 KW only results in fried terrorist.

Okay, hush your moufs. When it comes to interogating enemy prisoners I have over 200 scalps on my lodgepole. Wore out 16 brand new waterboards doing it. Torture is useful in obtaining confessions. The tortured will wind up saying whatever words the torture master wnats him to say. However it is useless in obtaining information. It renders the subject incapable of answering proper questions. The difference between torture and harassment (okay enhanced techniques) is best illustrated by the difference between the water cure and the waterboard.
He has to be a "neo". Paleo-Nazi is beyond his capabilities.

NOT GUILTY! (Don't like the verdict? Too bad. You can't stop people like me.)
as we were during the War Between The States. Foreign wars are a small price to pay to avoid a repeat of that>
I'd say that every successful republic has to become an empire in self-defense. Success always inspires envy as well as (some) emulation. The more pronounced the success, the more virulent the envy. I'd also say that while empire usually destroys republic, this does not have to be the case. I'd say that Uncle Sam has a great opportunity to become an imperial republic. We can spread our culture while maintaining our republican form of governance------and using both force and persuasion to implement the essential elements abroad. Finally I'd say that failure to at least try would mean we would be like what England has become---neither empire nor republic. In addition we will fragment and again be at each other's throats.

A Catholic Pope, Revisited

Those Episcopalians represent what happens when you cater to leftist fantasies. You become increasingly irrelevant. In contrast, those that demand personal discipline in order to adhere to the unpopular rules get the best men.
Well Jerome, that is because the Pope and his flock have freedom of choice. That gives them the natural right to tell you to go jump in the lake. If you don't like that, go join the jihadists, they do things your way----probably at your fatal expense but your way nonetheless. And I will take this opportunity to note a completely secular hole in your argument: Since when to contraceptives prevent disease? I'll concede that wearing one of them there rubber things may keep the clap at bay but keeping it in your pants works even better. Other contraceptives are rather irrelevant in disease prevention.
So they revoked the armistice. Sure saves us the trouble of doing it. Now we can bring the boys home. Have them report to the Yalu River for appropriate transportation. Sure, they can bring their yobos with them. We are far from heartless you know. Seriously folks, can anybody give me one valid reason for letting such a monstrosity continue to exist? This is not the Cold War where we were obliged to stay our hand and simply contain USSR satellites. Clobber the s. o. b.s and finish this one off.
