I certainly agree with the value of learning about what appear to us to be "alien" cultures. Note : I say 'learning about'. In the essay, the writer states that these 14 year-olds are "taught" that Allah is God. Maybe this says a lot more than the literal words. If, by the teen years and high school, a young American is sufficiently uninformed or uneducated that it is necessary to "teach" who or what God is, perhaps the problem is greater than the writer imagined.

That’s exactly what happened to a parent in Lumberton, Tex. She asked me not to disclose her identity because she fears for her daughter’s safety.
