Why not? Being a play actor certainly qualifies you for being in the Senate because it appears to be far more about having the ability to sway people's emotions than having the skill set/education required to actually solve problems. Typical hollywood type, people show him all kinds of adoration because of his relative celebrity, so he starts to believe that his ideas must be better, he must be smarter and more capable. Come on....

Actor Ben Affleck has never been shy about expressing his political views. In the past, he's hinted at making a run for a U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts and now that Senator John Kerry will be leaving his position to head up the State Department, it seems Affleck may be seriously considering taking his place.
