While Much of America Suffers with Stagnation, Washington’s Political Class Is Having a Very Merry Christmas

Dan, you don't know what you're talking about. I'm a clinical social worker for a state government. I have several decades of experience and two graduate degrees. Yet I'm only paid $145,000. That's less than some of the people I went to school with who got MBAs and went into finance. We have our priorities upside down!

As a government employee, you're paid what the taxpayers are willing to pay you. You knew going into state employment that you'd make less than the MBAs out there, yet, you chose it as your career choice. Now you're griping about it. I'd say you made a poor career choice and regret it. Same deal with the "poor unfortunates" in our society. They made poor choices in life and now those who made smarter choices in life get to pay for it. Change careers if you're not happy with it. An unhappy clinical anything is not going to do a good job and it will be communicated to those you are supposed to help. Been there, done that and left the clinical field.

Oh, waaaaaaaah. Get over yourself! When you stress yourself into a heart attack from your pity party, the nurse who saves your life will be happy to make 1/3rd of that. And for that he or she, like the rest of the nurses in this nation (and me, I am a Certified Pediatric Nurse who has worked Pediatric ER/Burn/Trauma and currently work in neonatology) will sacrifice nights, weekends, holidays, bathroom breaks and meal breaks. But we are proud of the work that we do and don't lament what "could have been" because we know the real value of our work isn't in the dollars earned, it is in the lives changed.

Dear "Our Lady Of Many Sorrows".

Stop whining and get your MBA. If you are as sharp as you want me to believe, you will dominate in the business arena.

If you don't like your situation, change it. I cannot and will not change it for you. Otherwise you sound like the people who flock to your office.

Merry Christmas,

Hamilcar

Only $145,000? What you don't understand is that your job does not create wealth. The guys with the MBAs (mostly) do. Your job costs us money. Their job doesn't. I understand your job helps heal people unlike the MBA's, unless you consider they build companies that offer health and wellness policies to their employees. If I were you I would thank my lucky stars that you have it so good, not to mention the great pension plan you probably have as a government employee.

Notredamemom: That's nothing. I can think of a Community Organizer who is more over-paid than you.

ONLY $145,000. People dig coal out of the ground and pump oil out of the earth for a third of what you make in your cushy office. Poor baby.

With all that paper attesting to your brilliance,Iam sure you not appreciated by the impersonal management that is government...Perhaps your priority for security while having an opportunity to help the masses was a driving force that dictated your career decisions... I hope you are happy in your station in life, because if you are bitter you can never achieve your maximum potential...

In large part because of an excessive burden of government, the American economy is suffering European-style stagnation, with even the Washington Post now confessing that growth far below the long-run trend.

This helps explain why job creation has been so dismal in recent years, with more than twenty million Americans out of work, underemployed, or dropped out of the workforce.

But there is one pocket of enormous prosperity in America. It will warm your heart to know that our overlords in Washington are living the life of Riley.

Here are some of the
