I think what he meant to say was: "What Stossel is saying is pretty much accepted paleo-conservative thought. Republicanism has become a horse of a different color..." Otherwise, he doesn't make much sense...

Yeah, Barry's doing "one heckova job" days after the disaster, shaking hands and feeling their pain... How fast people get back into their homes, and into their casinoes, will be the final test, just as it was for Bush after Katrina...

BTW, speaking of Flood Insurance... I wonder if people are still allowed to build and rebuild in locations tens of feet below sea level without buying flood insurance. After all, I can't get a mortgage for my home without fire insurance; how did all those homes and businesses in New Orleans perish without insurance? And could it happen again?

Forty summers ago, Tropical Storm Agnes hit the Northeast, and we were apparently blessed that FEMA was not yet spawned. We did have some federal assistance, mostly though HUD and SBA, to help us out (after all, it was an election year) but it was presumed that the state and local agencies, especially the National Guards, and the charitable agencies, such as the Red Cross and Salvation Army, would do much of the heavy lifting..as well as the victims and their neighbors themselves. And we did!

Of course, isn't that the irony? We can't laugh at them in public, for that is a "hate crime." Yet, if they are on stage, or in a sit-com, it is perfectly OK. [Or do they REALLY think we are laughing WITH them...]
Oh yeah, this was a RUSSIAN poll... Jill Stein pulled 51%
So Virgil Goode got the other 51%?
"Ron Paul has been a Congressman for Years and has little legislation to show for it. " You don't get it do you? RP is the one whose hand HASN'T been in your pocket... And remember, if he, or another paleo-conservative became POTUS, s/he would not necessarily have to have a majority support in Congress. You don't have to pass legislation to bring troops home, reduce our presence overseas, or, most important, spend less money in general. [Alert for GA voters: Don't waste your vote by writing in Ron Paul's name on the slate... By law, it will not count, because he lost the recent primary. Either select Johnson, or write in Virgil Goode...or pick Romney, if you really are paranoid about Obama winning GA...]
I would hope the GOP could do better than him by 2016. [Dang, I've said that every election cycle since '88...]
Charles- You actually mentioned only half of the FF's vision: not only would the House be closer to the people, and recognize their needs, but the Senators would be seasoned statesmen, selected by their state's legislatures, who would able to trim budgets without fear of voter retribution. The FFs knew that if budgets were controlled entirely by popularly elected officials, there would be no limit to the raiding of the treasury to buy votes. Unfortunately that vision was undone about a hundred years ago, and we are living with the results. That is why our friends to the North, Canada, continues with the older, more parliamentarian, model.
And I'll bet he was sad doing so... Unless he hasn't noticed that all the recent "free trade" legislation that has sent more of our jobs overseas were pushed by the GOP. Even Ron Paul dared not to vote against them.
