The word "illegal" is in the news these days. John Ransom mentions that Apple has done nothing illegal in acquiring millions of dollars. Contrast this with the "illegal" alien who has illegally acquired (stolen) presence in the United States worth $1,000, $5,000, $10,000, $50,000, $100,000? Theft of this magnitude should not be tolerated.

The retired federal workers COLA (Cost of Living Allowance) effective January 2012 is 3.6%, not 3.5% given in my comment of a few minutes ago.

End the deficit. That is end use of the word "deficit" and replace it with the words "debt increase" which is what a deficit is although millions of people do not know the definition of the word "deficit". Millions of retired federal workers received a 3.5% COLA effective January 2012. I haven't seen or heard this reported anywhere.

Who decides when human life begins? Is not every egg in the womb a potential human life? All the egg needs to become a human being is the all important male sperm. Oh, of course, add the obligatory 9 months of gestation in a woman with pain for and the risk of death of that woman. Can you imagine the males species accepting the same obligation and risk with a female equivalent of a sperm that caused the male to become pregnant? The right to choose under the same circumstances of a fertilized egg is a right that MANkind would never relinquish.

Serpentdove: The human being does not know whether existence is a "timeless entity" of not. It makes sense that existence came into existence somehow, sometime, but how and when is yet to be understood. Meanwhile there have been many human constructs that offer an explanation some of which understandably elevate the human being as the reason for existence and have humanized the explanation for existence with God and his son Jesus. It's possible, because anything is possible in the absence of knowing, but the Christian God is unlikely to be the explanation for existence. I would love to be wrong, but I doubt that I am. I await your explanation for existence based on reason instead of hope and belief.

The true believer does not answer my basic questions as follows: 1. Does existence exist? 2. Is there a non-existent existence such as existent life after life goes out of existence? That is, life after death. 3. Is there an explanation for existence? 4. Does the human being know the explanation for existence? My answers are as follows. 1. Yes. 2. No. 3. Yes. 4. No. I have no problem calling the explanation for existence "God". I understand the need and value of God in most peoples lives. I disagree with atheists who denigrate believers. Go in peace. Reference to the national debt should always include the current national debt now at $12.5 trillion. Comparison of $12.5 trillion with the $9.7 trillion 77% increase that Obama will add to the national debt over the next decade becomes stark indeed at $22.2 trillion.
