The violence in the US will never subside because our entire culture is violence loving. A gun is a tool, a tool that makes it much easier to kill. People used to build homes with hand axes until modern tools came along. The gun is just a more effective killing tool, so the violence will continue despite more laws or more guns. Guns deter a few crimes 5wise, but the downside is that they also kill others and their owners more easily.
