Gay marriage is not about gays or marriage. It is about about politics. Progressives know that the traditionally family is a unit of freedom that values the family above the state, and more importantly, they don't vote Democrat. In the early 1980's the left was convinced marriage was an archaic institution that would disappear. The theme of greater sexual freedom appealed to gays, who joined progressives' efforts to erode the traditional family. Now progressives are embracing marriage for gays because they believe changing the definition will hasten the demise of the nuclear family voting bloc.
