I rather think his rebellion affected him as it must have done the prodigal son, and he has a greater understanding of the pit he avoided. Some of the greatest of Christians were allowed to go through experiences, as experience is a great teacher. Funny that respect, garnered around the globe, impresses so much. That is not God's measure of a man, and if it matters, then one would surely be a devout Christian, because of Christ. No human has been more influential.
