Apparently the union members did not have enough pull with Trumpka and Obama to bail out Twinkies. Socialism would allow that, as it is Government control of production. Michelle's push for healthy food, countered with an Obama bailout of Twinkies would be entertaining, but I trust none of them. They may not have needed election contributions, such as they got from other unions and bosses, whose businesses were given grants or loan guarantees by Obama. Profit drives Obama, and when profit in money is not needed, profit in esteem, influence and power certainly is accepted by people. In some cases that profit exceeds financial yearnings. All for the children, middle class and poor, mind you.

I have not found or read the whole story yet, but it appears that the bankrupcy judge has blocked selloff of the assets of the Hostess company and sent both sides back to arbitration. This has the appearance that, once again, government has stepped in to save a union.

Killing the goose that lays the golden egg is one of those old fairy tales for children which has a heavy message that a lot of adults should listen to. The labor unions which have driven the makers of Twinkies into bankruptcy, potentially destroying 18,500 jobs, could have learned a lot from that old children's fairy tale.
