Would each of you consider Albert Einstein to have greater knowledge (in his day) than most of us? I certainly would. Many of his theories are the basis for scientific discoveries today. Yet this brilliant man said, "I soon reached the conviction that much in the stories of the Bible could not be true." If he was such a brilliant man, why would he come to this conclusion? I am not comparing myself to Einstein in any way. But I yield to his superior intellect.

... but I don't think they are the same) 10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house/wife (again no law based on wanting) So out of the Big 10 there are TWO that are actually in the law, and they are part of Natural Law. I hardly call that the BASIS for the majority of ALL LAWS.

1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Yep, lots of laws are based on that one) 2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image (where did I miss that in Law books?) 3. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain (missed that one too) 4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy (oooh, not there, so what are laws based on again?) 5. Honour thy father and thy mother (good advice, but there are no laws that state this) 6. Thou shalt not kill. (Ahh there we go, but isn't this a basic tenant of Natural Law?) 7. Thou shalt not commit adultery (again, not a crime) 8. Thou shalt not steal (see #6 above) 9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. (hmm, there are perjury, slander and libel laws...)

But yes - if the conservative movement were purely conservative, the "gay" community and all other minorities would be fools for following the Left. --- Yes, if the Religious Right were not in control of the Conservative movement then only the true Leftist/Statist would be in opposition of the Republican party. However, due to the stranglehold the Religious Right has on the Republican Party, the Libertarian Party has seen a great growth in members, numbers, and even elected officials.

gsw Wrote: 16 minutes ago (8:39 PM) You need to read - if you can - some 16th, 17th, and 18th century commentaries by religious leaders on the evils sodomy --- You don't read well do you? The events in Sodom were written about in Genesis. Genesis was written around the 6th to 5th century BC -- several centuries before the birth of Jesus. It wasn't until several centuries AFTER Jesus that the story was changed to being that the primary sin of Sodom was Homosexuality. 16th, 17th and 18th century commentaries are over TWENTY CENTURIES AFTER THE EVENTS! Jewish teachers were not teaching that Sodom's sin was homosexuality through the first several centuries after Jesus died. Wouldn't they have more of a direct knowledge of the events?
It would be interesting to see what the D/R/I sampling is for those polls. From what I have seen, to get Obama a +9 on the polls required a D+19 sampling size. Even in 2008 there wasn't D+19 turnout.

His religion should not matter. It would matter if any government official tried to govern based upon the teachings of a religious text.
The creation story of Genesis does not match proven fact. It says that God created the fish and birds during the same "God era" yet fish first appeared more than 500 million years ago and birds are a group of theropod dinosaurs that evolved during the Mesozoic Era (230 to 65 million years ago). Also, that dinosaurs had to exist FIRST before birds could exist.
There will be no getting you to understand. You argue that the Earth is less than 30,000 years old. For that to be true Dinosaurs had to share the Earth with Humans. There are NO human fossils found in the geo layers with Dinosaurs. We know that Dinosaurs lived over 230 million years ago. The oldest Cro-Magnon remains are from 45,000 years ago.
Morris concluded that the barrel was still in the process of being filled up and that, given the present rate of water coming in and leaking out, the filling process began only 10,000 years ago. It's a great argument except for one, little thing. The water is not coming out of the hose at a steady rate as our model assumed! Sometimes it slows down to a trickle so that much more water is leaking out the barrel than is coming in; sometimes it goes full blast so that a lot more water is coming into the barrel than is leaking out. Thus, the mere fact that the present rate of water coming in exceeds that of the water leaking out cannot be extrapolated back to a starting time. And, that destroys the entire argument!
