BREAKING: SCOTUS Sides With Hobby Lobby

Following is a quote from Reuters: "In a majority opinion by conservative Justice Samuel Alito, the court said the ruling applies only to the birth control mandate and does not mean companies would necessarily succeed if they made similar claims to other insurance requirements, such as vaccinations and blood transfusions." How long before that statement is challenged by a group of Jehovahs Witnesses who believe that blood transfusions are against their religious tenants? How about if I establish a religion that teaches all cancer is from God and can only be cured by prayer? Any employees I would provide insurance for would not be covered for any cancer treatment. The list goes on and on. I advocate for a medical standard of care that is required to be covered under all insurance plans. This medical standard of care would be decided upon by doctors who are the acknowledged experts in their fields.
A significant portion of the problems with the Republican party can be laid at the feet of the 2010 redrawing of congressional districts done by Republican controlled legislatures. The gerrymandering that was done to create safe Republican districts is now coming back to bite them in the butt. By making a district "safe" for any Republican candidate, the most strident, rightwing candidate is the one that emerges. These Tea Partiers may not be elected in the general or, as so often has happened, they come to Congress with an attitude of "my way or the highway" and nothing gets accomplished.
Fuzzy, gas taxes are a per gallon rate, not a percentage as you have stated. The government gets the same amount if gas is $2 per gallon or $4.
I get nauseated at the attitudes expressed toward this soldier. Yes, he obviously had some problems. From what I've read of his combat situation, it was hell on earth. Everyone has a breaking point and maybe he reached his and went a little nuts. If you think that anything he said during his captivity wasn't coerced, you are wrong. The President was right, in the end-we got a soldier back and that is the solemn promise that we make to all of our soldiers. Now, let the military justice system investigate and decide what, if any, charges are appropriate. Anything other than that is nothing but an example of the right wing hatred for the President and their knee jerk opposition to any actions/decisions he makes.
I don't think I'd play up the points that he was an adviser to GWB and Romney...
I live in Iowa. We've had same sex marriage for 5 years now. The sky isn't falling, the earth hasn't opened up and swallowed us whole-maybe it really isn't the end of life as we know it. If it's against your religious beliefs or perhaps you just don't want to marry someone of the same sex as yourself-don't do so. For the rest of us, we just don't really care. For the record, I've been married to a person of the opposite sex for 39 years. We have three daughters, all heterosexual. I've got no dog in this fight, just don't see where it's anybody's business but those getting married.
How about this for my point. If you take the time to read the majority of posts on this thread, Obama is blamed for something that occurred 4+ years before he assumed office. I invite to to come to your own conclusions.
All of you idiots blaming Obama for this scenario should do some basic math. According to the article, this occurred in June 2004 and a trial was held 5 months later, which would also make that in 2004. All of this happened during the administration of GWB, but I'm positive that your rabid hatred of anything Obama won't stop you from laying the blame entirely at his feet even though it would be 4 1/2 years before he takes the oath of office.
So Depair101, you're taking out your frustrations with your economic failures on the president. Perhaps you should have studied harder or learned a skill. Besides that, the topic is impeachment not your shortcomings.
Cons-please,oh please go for impeachment. This action will only reinforce your wild eyed hatred for anything Obama under any circumstances. Bring up articles of impeachment in the HR and vote on them. Realize the Senate will not remove the President from office AND that voters, other than your rabid followers, will roll their eyes in disgust for the waste of time.Do you really think the average voter will decide that a failure to notify Congress in the required time trumps the return of one of our soldiers (even if he is flawed) after five years in captivity with the Taliban?
When are you all going to learn that while conservatives are hoping to win a few battles, they have already lost the war on gay marriage. If you don't like it or believe it is against your religion, don't marry someone of the same sex. Previous posters refer to adultery, deviant sex etc. and I've go a news flash for you. Those behaviors aren't exclusive to homosexuality, they occur in all segments of society. You're all just a bunch of bigots who don't like homosexuals because it offends your delicate sensibilities. And for the record, I've got no dog in this fight. I'm been married to a person of the opposite sex for 38 years, have 3 heterosexual children and have no known homosexual relatives (although I do expect I've got some relatives who are hiding their true sexuality).
