You're right - there is currently no physical evidence that the gold tablets or golden plates exist. How do you know that the water Jesus turned to wine ever really existed? Knowledge about Jesus Christ and his prophets, of which Joseph Smith was one, is based on faith and testimony. If you will read the Book of Mormon and humbly pray to know if it is true, God will give you an answer. That is the only way to know for sure. I did that and I received my answer by the power of the Holy Ghost. I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, who translated the Book of Mormon by the power of God. I know that the Book of Mormon will help us find happiness in this life and eternal life afterwards.

I'm a Mormon. I believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. I consider myself to be a Christian. Why is your definition of a Christian superior to mine? The Bible is not God's only word. In his mercy and love, God also spoke to other people in other places on Earth, through the centuries, and they wrote down what he said. Therefore, there are more scriptures out there than just the Bible. The Book of Mormon is the word of God, translated by Joseph Smith. God's words are endless, just as his creations are across the never-ending Universe.

Actually Derek, the BOM does teach that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God, that he is the second member of the Godhead (your Trinity), and that only through his atonement (death on the cross being one aspect), can we be saved from our sins. You can read the Book of Mormon online at LDS.org. Pray to know if it's true and you'll get an answer.
